I don't think this was a troll, it was just an opinion. Paul actually co-wrote Unix: for the impatient...which I have. He's not some Microsoftie..just someone giving his 0.02.
This Paul Abrahams? : http://www.acm.org/awards/fellows_citations/abrahams.html Well, I'm impressed. Hey, I just remembered, I bought a copy of that book about six or seven years ago. In fact, I just now pulled it off the shelf and gave it a look. The rabbit pulling the giant carrot out of the ground caught my eye when I first bought it because I was looking for something simple, but the awk and grep discussions cooled me out. A friend of mine had shown me Linux 1.0, or some low number, and was running 4 copies of Doom at the same time. He told me it was command driven and refered me to this book to learn how to use Linux. I must admit that I was scared off by the book. I felt like a blind man trying to learn about elephants by feeling the trunk. I needed a broader understanding of Unix in general before I could get my mind around a buch of esoteric commands with a ton of switches for each one. After three years with Linux it isn't so scarry now.
