I seem to remember that at the Netscape download web site they have both libc5 and libc6 versions of the software, though possibly not under those names. Maybe it's called glibc. This business of getting the right library can be very confusing, and is one of the least attractive aspects of installing Linux software.
On Linux, glibc 2 is used as the libc with major version 6, the successor of the Linux libc 5. It's probably a good idea to not use libc5. I took it off of my computer so that everything could be up to date (and to salvage disk space), and only had to recompile one program (wipe). I guess the main reason to keep it, would be if you could not compile a newer version (or get a newer binary). -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
