I have a problem with one off my emails scanned by amavis. This the error message:
Which version of AMaViS _exactly_? In general, please see http://www.amavis.org/amavis-user-guidelines.php3#Technical for reporting any problems with amavis. Thanks.
Upps sorry. It's amavis perl-11 on linux (kernal 2.2.18). The MTA is sendmail 8.11.2.

, ... unknown mailer error 255 I don't know why amavis calls the Tar.pm because there is no tar-archive attached to the mail. The attachments are plain text files. We rely on what the unix command file tells us (sooner or later it will be replaced by a perl module).
So I tried to save the attachments as local-files from the dead.letter written by amavis and ask file for each type but none off them are reported as tar. But I had a closer look at the attachment. The file which produces the error is created by a shell-script to report errors and it looks like a tar file is placed somewhere in it.
