Well... Let's use this thread for setting up some video infos.
1) public expected
For what public do we want a video? The still not completed openSUSE goals say we aim at power user (or sort of). So we don't target newbie.
But we have to ask ourselve who will need a video for documentation? I don't really have an answer. Most of the time I choose written doc against video, eventually with some screenshot.
I think we should focus on marketing video's. That means showing off cool stuff, preferably a bit unique to openSUSE (but doesn't have to be). Like Yast stuff, OBS. Something like a cool 1-minute screencast combining GNOME, KDE, XFCE and LXDE to show that we offer so much choice; a video showing how Yast allows you to install -debug or -devel packages with one click (super cool for developers! Something we should advertise...); a video showing how to get an OBS repository added & packages like a weekly KDE or GNOME snapshot installed. Many of those would probably require a 20 min screencast, then cutting & speeding it up to 1 or 2 minutes or so.
2) subjects on priority order A subject asked was to connect to the net, but is that usefull (see 1))?
What is (are) the subject where video have a substancial benefit comparing to simple explanation with/without screenshots?
As we are on a marketting mailing list, I beg it's marketting, not techichal issues.
Yeah, see above :D
2-1) Installing openSUSE We can do a video showing an openSUSE installation, commented with voice over. What comment shall we use, we will see later...
2-2) Demonstrating YaST We could do a video showing YaST use, for example 2-2-1) to configure repositories and 2-2-2 to find a package, preferably an obscure one
2-3) desktop organisation. I can show how I organise my desktop, with 8 virtual desktops
2-3 I use to make lessons, I can make a special shot for video (last done, but for newbies, setup an article in openoffice, work photos with digiKam, make a nice poster with openoffice). I also have some course (here in french) http://fr.opensuse.org/Formation_d%27administrateur_Baby, I could make them videos (but all this is pretty much work)
3) Full video or screen dump? I know pretty well true video (with camcorder), I'm not familiar with screen dump software (in fact I know none really friendly, but I can learn :-)
4) goodies. On many videos, the image do not need to have a comment, but it's better with some music. I definitvely need somebody who could choose music for me.
We also need opening and closing, if possible standard (same for all videos) - that is the 10 s at the beginning and at the end of the video
We can pic an openSUSE image and use that... fade in, fade out - done... :D
5) voice over We can use an existing video and add various languages. Here I added french http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCvtdy0b5UY
6) subtitles here I added subtitles. We could even make a video to show how we add subtitles :-))
thats all folks for now :-))
Awesome :D
