Hi Folks,
I chatted with Dario earlier today and asked him to send me a mail to
forward. Sounds like a pretty common crash and I have not yet tested
myself, but wanted to get this out there for people to see.
Cheers,
Peter

Subject: Dolphin crashes on exit (OpenSuse, Strigi and KDE Factory)
Date: Sat, 11 Dec 2010 13:34:19 -0300
From: Darío Andrés
On the KDE Bugtracker we are trying to identify a mass crash happening
to OpenSuse users (11.2, 11.3, 11.4) with KDE SC 4.6 betas.
The crash report is https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=257944
Summary of the Crash: Dolphin (and other applications) crash on exit
if some actions are performed.
The crash seems to be related to Strigi (libstreams). It happens when
some file info is loaded/shown in Dolphin (using the Information
panel, or spawning the Properties dialog of a file; which also
contains a metainfo tab).
I installed OpenSuse 11.4 (the last milestone available some days ago)
on a VM and I could reproduce the crash. I could also reproduce the
crash if I invoked "kfile4 --dialog SomeAppLauncher.desktop", waited 5
seconds or more and closed the dialog (Note that
"SomeAppLauncher.desktop" could be , for example, any .desktop file on
Desktop, like "MozillaFirefox.desktop")
On my installed, The KDE Crash Handler didn't appeared at all. The
crash information was shown on the terminal (reduced stacktrace and
memory map). I couldn't get a valid backtrace while running Dolphin
from GDB.
However, Valgrind detected the crash and it showed references to
libstreams.so (Strigi). I tried to install the debuginfo packages for
it but I couldn't get the full information in Valgrind. (I also had
some problems while installing the debuginfo packages, may be some
package version mismatch).
We don't know if this could be caused by Strigi 0.7.3, the KDE
packages from Factory or any other factor in OpenSuse.
We didn't get any other similar report from another distribution
deploying KDE 4.6 beta packages (I don't know if they also deploy
strigi 0.7.3)
It could be really useful if OpenSuse devs or experienced users could
test this on their installations to try to determine the cause, or at
least, to try to get a full Valgrind log to fill a Strigi bug.
If you need more help or information you can contact me or leave a
message in the bug report.
Thanks in advance
