I had the same problem. It's caused by the kde rpm files having been re-organised between 8.0 and 8.1. The samba interface is in it's own package now, which, since it naturally wasn't installed in 8.0, isn't upgraded when you move to 8.1. I've writing this from a system still on 8.0 so I can't check what the name of the package is, but search for "samba" in yast2 and I believe you'll find it. /Lennart torsdag 02 januari 2003 19:26 skrev Meije Oppenhuizen:

I had a similar problem with SAMBA printing. When I upgraded to 8.1 I could no longer print to a SAMBA printer on a W2K server. Even though I got no error messages when I tried....and even though the machines I upgraded printed just fine before the upgrade.
I also tried a fresh install of 8.1 and could not ever get it to print to a W2K printer.
I didn't mention it, but it's the same here. In the add-printerwizard of kprinter the choice to add smb-printers is greyed out.
