After double checking I have now removed the gnome panel from the kde desktop. I notice that panel and gnome-name-server (if I recall that name correctly) have both disappeared from the ps aux output even though I only killed panel. However, the medusa-idled remains. Should I remove that as well? Thanks for your help on this Matt it has solved the problem. John On Saturday 28 September 2002 08:03, Matt Sheffield wrote:
Tell me what happens when you double check the save session problem.

I tried out what you suggested last night. First you were right, I did have session checked. Killall -9 panel removed the gnome panel but killall -9 nautilus didn't find any nautilus related programs in memory. I then logged out and saved session. However, when I logged back in the gnome panel reappeared. I ran ps aux (print out below) and found a couple of other things related to gnome which I killed (together with panel again) and then repeated the logout procedure. However, these programs and the panel still reappeared. (Come to think of it as I write this mail it's possible I forgot to save session and then uncheck it next time round as it was quite late last night when I did this - will need to check this again tonight.) However, is it correct to remove these other gnome related programs that are sitting in memory? Is there anything else that I should remove? thanks for help. cheers John Satherley
