This is indeed very important and even more so for recent laptops that do really benefit from newer kernels and drivers.
I already answered to Liam Proven... For PRODUCTION SYSTEMS I cannot use anything permanently changing. Also, I have to fully agree with Carlos. I do not use Linux for fun, I use it as a better alternative to M$. It has to support all existing hardware up to todays one. That this is possible is shown by other distros.
