Recently i took a look at tumbleweed and milestone 42.1. I discovered that all virtual desktops are always identical.
If change a wallpaper on one of the desktops all desktops change to the chosen wallpaper. Where is the setting to have different wallpapers on each desktop ?
If i set the desktop to folderview and change "desktopsettings-location-specify a folder" the desktopfolder, it is always the same for all desktops. So also the icons and widgets are for all desktops identical.
Is this a known omission or is it still in the pipeline ?
I've just discovered that the functionality of virtual-desktops is also in activities and available in tumbleweed and milestone42. I can give each activity a different wallpaper, switch each activity to folderview and give each activite its own desktop directory. Now all desktops (read activities) can be complete different.
The only difference i can find is virtualdesktops have a pager available and activities have not.
If we can get a pager for activities, i think we don't need virtualdesktops anymore.
And some - including me - think: "we don't need 'activities' anymore".
That's a concept that may have looked good in theory but failed when it encountered reality.
Who uses it? You obviously didn't. Nor do I. And apparently very few of those who vented their anger in the a. m. bug-thread.
I had a similarly baffling experience with KDE: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=316295#c2
And what really bugs me is not that they - like any of us - make mistakes. But that arrogant, Microsoft-like attitude and almost senile stubbornness with which they (or some of them) simply discard rightful and constructive critisism.
Maybe some of them see themselves as "God's gift to users".
Which which would be debatable. ;)

We've argued this years a go 'ad nauseum' when KDE4 was first released. The one feature provided by the old style pager from KDE3 that allowed different wallpapers was dropped. This was part of the old code that was replaced by KDE4's Activities. No matter how many times you report this as a bug they will mark this as WONTFIX on the kde bugs forum. Whilst the desktop plasma activity that is on by default uses plasmoids. The folders/files activity is used by users that prefer the older style of right-clicking to create shortcuts previously seen in KDE3. Activities provides the user a different layout and approach to the desktop. Cheers! Roman ICQ: 551368250
