The workaround in http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Most_annoying_bugs_11.4 is good. If one does 'zypper up rpm' _before_ zypper dup, then it is OK. That works from 11.3, 11.4 RC1 and 11.4 RC2.
This is not a workaround. This is how it is documented and it is an essential requirement to update the package management stack from the target distribution before starting with "zypper dup". (We actually ask to run "zypper up zypper" or "zypper in zypper"; see the Reference guide, Chap. 15.1.4--it is in the docs that way since ages and developers recently confirmed that it is needed.)
Another common mistake is to "work" as a regualar user during "zypper dup". It is undefined what may happen in those cases.
Even if announced as a "live update", it is a plain distribution upgrade...
During lunch with Michael Schroeder he says "this is wrong wrong wrong". :) Just "zypper dup" should work, but I let him chime in. Ciao, MArcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
