Question: How do you rebuild mkinitrd so it loads in the RS780_pfp.bin
file ?

I encountered bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=596268

Its a mkinitrd issue as indicated by the logged bug.

You need a new mkinitrd package from the Base:System buildservice
repository as indicated in
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=596268#c13

Chances are that the package has been accepted to Factory meanwhile.

Reading further down in the mentioned bug (comment #39) you also want
to install kernel-firmware to ensure a complete set of ATI firmware
files (see also bnc#598624)
