10.2a4 cd1 & mini-iso (both checked with md5sum on file and verified by k3b burner)
Very early in install, "Kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init!" occurs just after "freeing unused kernel memory" message, which is followed by "SMP" alone on a line. Hardware isn't SMP...
I don't see the SMP on mine, and the system which I'm trying to install it upon doesn't support SMP as yet (see below).
Tried default install, "safe settings" and using F4 to pre-select NFS & server - all crash in the same way.
Hardware is AMD K6-2/500 with 512M RAM, ATI AGP video; runs 10.1 perfectly.
I can post a picture of the screen but obviously no log files etc.
Probably looks remarkably similar to this[0]: URL:http://www.davjam.org/~davjam/images/parallels_10.2alpha4.gif
This looks similar to 203466 (not posted by me) though that was 10.2 alpha 3.
Has anyone had a successful install on 10.2a4 on similar low end hardware?
Not a low end system, but have successfully upgraded from alpha3 on a laptop[1]. I won't make too many comments about the changes to KDE, except to say that I switched the KDE menu back to classic style after only a few minutes of testing.
I have raised bug 204252 for this.
This looks exactly the same as the problem I, and at least one other person, have when trying to install it on a Parallels virtual machine. The bug report in that case (#202605) was originally reported as a failure of alpha3 to install where it locked up and, in my case, occupied 100% CPU time of one processor of my SMP machine. [0] Why it's showing the kernel is tainted, I have no idea. The screenshot in bug #202605 shows the same with an untainted kernel. [1] Anyone using a DVD built using makeSUSEdvd will possibly find it fails to work. For some reason, the DVD install failed to initialise the catalogues and I had to resort to using CDs instead :| Regards, David Bolt -- Member of Team Acorn checking nodes at 50 Mnodes/s: http://www.distributed.net/ AMD1800 1Gb WinXP/SUSE 9.3 | AMD2400 256Mb SuSE 9.0 | A3010 4Mb RISCOS 3.11 AMD2400(32) 768Mb SUSE 10.0 | Falcon 14Mb TOS 4.02 | A4000 4Mb RISCOS 3.11 AMD2600(64) 512Mb SUSE 10.0 | | RPC600 129Mb RISCOS 3.6 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
