I have connected linux clients to Novell via IPX only as well. Connects via NDS too.
Try at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/novelclient/
Guy can't spell Novell but he can write a client.

Has anyone had any experience using Linux clients with Novell servers?
You'll find that the commands slist and ncpmount probably give you most of what you need. Assuming that the Novell server is running TCP/IP, then slist should produce a list of available, visible, Novell servers to which you can attach.
ncpmount is the command to use to access any of the Novell volumes and bind them to the Linux tree. You'd be wise to look at the man page for this, especially noting use of the -U switch, as choosing your Novell user needs to be done with some care, if you do not have matched usernames on the Linux box.
It is the Novell permissions that ultimately control what the user may do to the files.
It really is easy after that.
In response to Thomas's suggestion ...
You'll want to have samba running so that you can exchange files, etc.
You won't. Samba and the support for Novell are two totally separate and distinct networking systems. Samba uses the server message block (SMB) as its packet-wrapping protocol. Novell uses NCP, which is their proprietary upper layer.
I have no more time to spend on this reply at present, but let me know if you are still stcuk, and I'll try and find a window (an X-window, of course) of opportunity to help you!
Kind regards
Andrew Ray
