We've interviewed a few over the last couple of years. In each case we gave them a pile of bits and watched them make a computer out of it, in order to see if they were familiar and happy messing with the hardware. Then we probed them with technical questions pertaining to the sort of stuff they are likely to need to know in schools - profiles, policies and, if you are lucky, Samba configuration :) Maybe it's too late now, but if you've advertised on standard technician grades, don't hold your breath. I managed to persuade the head to offer significantly more salary, and we are lucky enough to have 2 very good technicians. Cheers -- Phil Driscoll
