Nein, du kannst auch KDE starten ohne in der Gruppe video zu sein (gerade auf einer 9.2 getestet!)

PS: Habe jetzt festgestellt, dass die Einstellungen von SaX2 nicht gespeichert werden. Beim neu starten staret der X-server wieder mit 16 bit als mit 24 bit.
da hilft /etc/X11/XF86Config entsprechend von Hand editieren.
