http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1153808 Bug ID: 1153808 Summary: Strange Noises and I/O errors from Western Digital MyPassport Drive Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I have a Western Digital My Passport USB 3 disk (WDC WD10JMVW-11S5XS0) that used to work fine in the past. I didn't connect it for a while, but in the last two kernels the device does not work any more. There are errors reported by the kernel that weren't reported before, and the disk seems unusable. However SMART values do not indicate a problem with the disk. Details: First the messages from the past (Linux 4.4.70-18.9-default) when the device worked: Jul 14 19:16:48 i7 kernel: usb 4-1: new SuperSpeed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd Jul 14 19:16:48 i7 mtp-probe[3138]: checking bus 4, device 3: "/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb4/4-1" Jul 14 19:16:48 i7 mtp-probe[3138]: bus: 4, device: 3 was not an MTP device Jul 14 19:16:48 i7 kernel: usb 4-1: New USB device found, idVendor=1058, idProduct=0748 Jul 14 19:16:48 i7 kernel: usb 4-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=5 Jul 14 19:16:48 i7 kernel: usb 4-1: Product: My Passport 0748 Jul 14 19:16:48 i7 kernel: usb 4-1: Manufacturer: Western Digital Jul 14 19:16:48 i7 kernel: usb 4-1: SerialNumber: 57585...
