Bug ID: 1089615
Summary: AMD cards using DC code: random flicker with kernel
4.16 (upstream fix available)
Classification: openSUSE
Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed
Version: Current
Hardware: Other
OS: Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Kernel
Assignee: kernel-maintainers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Reporter: lbeltrame@xxxxxxx
QA Contact: qa-bugs@xxxxxxx
Found By: ---
Blocker: ---

As reported in https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199101, kernel 4.16
introduced a regression that causes random (and very frequent) screen flicker
for certain AMD video card users using the DC code.

Someone bisected the issue and the offending commit was reverted
inamd-staging-drm-next
(https://cgit.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/linux/commit/?h=amd-staging-drm-next&id=fc0644eddd2d5f77aac44ad2ab5a3edae08d11c2)

It may be worth considering applying it to our current kernel packages (barring
any other important objections).
