As reported in https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199101, kernel 4.16 introduced a regression that causes random (and very frequent) screen flicker for certain AMD video card users using the DC code. Someone bisected the issue and the offending commit was reverted inamd-staging-drm-next (https://cgit.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/linux/commit/?h=amd-staging-drm-next&id=fc0644eddd2d5f77aac44ad2ab5a3edae08d11c2) It may be worth considering applying it to our current kernel packages (barring any other important objections).
