Regarding use version Factory 4.2.3.3,
Looks to me like this function is YMMV, possibly related to the page code.
When I pointed to one of the URLs listed above http://www.sportinglife.com/football/results The results were probably unsatisfactory, Team names and scores displayed in cells without much logic.
Pointed to a page where the data is in HTMLv4 tables http://realtimerpi.com/ Result was fairly nice
Pointed to a stock options page http://thestockmarketwatch.com/stock/stock-data.aspx?stock=HD&a=showOptions Result was only text was imported(and interestingly they were hyperlinked) but <no> data points at all were imported.
So, it looks like this tool is YMMV. I would guess that alternatives which publish data streams (eg XML web services, feeds, etc) are more reliable for live data, otherwise snapshotting an HTML table (copy and paste) still works for me always.
Tony; Actually, the external link in the prior release worked as the documentation indicates. According to the documentation, once you enter the web site URL a dialog box opens with all of the available HTML tables available for linking. You then select the desired table and the data is imported. I have an older calc document which imports the data just fine; however, when I try to add new links to that spreadsheet or create a new spreadsheet, Librecalc hangs at the URL entry and never displays the dialog box with the HTML table options. As I mentioned, my current unmodified spreadsheet links work just fine. Only when I try to create new external links does the program seem to freeze.
