Hello,
Although I am not assigned to this, because this bug was referenced in the Technical Help Forums I was curious enough to look this up.
The links by both the OP and Ron Motlok point generally to HTML pages and not to specific tables or otherwise commonly formatted data content (like CSV).
I've never tried to do something like this before, I've always imported HTML tables or text files with delimited data.
Can someone point to a web tutorial or other resource that describes what these two individuals are trying to do(which if possible would be surprising to me)?
Thx. Have a look at comment#0: Select Insert - Link to external data in Calc's menu and enter one of the URLs in the "URL of external data source" field.
I can reproduce the hang here with LO 4.1.5.3 from the 13.1 Update repo, but it works fine with LO 4.2.3.3 from LibreOffice:Factory. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Regarding use version Factory 4.2.3.3,
Looks to me like this function is YMMV, possibly related to the page code.
When I pointed to one of the URLs listed above http://www.sportinglife.com/football/results The results were probably unsatisfactory, Team names and scores displayed in cells without much logic.
Pointed to a page where the data is in HTMLv4 tables http://realtimerpi.com/ Result was fairly nice
Pointed to a stock options page http://thestockmarketwatch.com/stock/stock-data.aspx?stock=HD&a=showOptions Result was only text was imported(and interestingly they were hyperlinked) but <no> data points at all were imported.
So, it looks like this tool is YMMV. I would guess that alternatives which publish data streams (eg XML web services, feeds, etc) are more reliable for live data, otherwise snapshotting an HTML table (copy and paste) still works for me always.
Tony; Actually, the external link in the prior release worked as the documentation indicates. According to the documentation, once you enter the web site URL a dialog box opens with all of the available HTML tables available for linking. You then select the desired table and the data is imported. I have an older calc document which imports the data just fine; however, when I try to add new links to that spreadsheet or create a new spreadsheet, Librecalc hangs at the URL entry and never displays the dialog box with the HTML table options. As I mentioned, my current unmodified spreadsheet links work just fine. Only when I try to create new external links does the program seem to freeze.
