ray herman,
your issue is different because you wrote in comment#12:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
sysman@th3:~> l /dev/bus/usb/002/002
crw-rw-r--+ 1 root lp 189, 129 Nov 1 23:44 /dev/bus/usb/002/002
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
which looks o.k. (the '+' shows there is an ACL set and I assume the
ACL is right - but only "gefacl" would tell you, see my comment#9)
but you also wrote in comment#12:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
scanimage: open of device
hpaio:/usb/HP_Color_LaserJet_CM1312nfi_MFP?serial=00CNC88CKN78 failed: Error
during device I/O
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Error during device I/O" is a different issue.
Therefore I close this bug again as "fixed".
"Error during device I/O" means there is some device I/O
(i.e. there is device access) but the communication with
the device does not work correctly.
Please file a new separated bug report regarding
"Error during device I/O for USB scanner in HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi MFP"
Because you use the "hpaio" scanner driver from HPLIP we need
the HPLIP error messages which appear in /var/log/messages.
You may run as root a command like
"grep -i hp /var/log/messages | tail -n100 >/tmp/hp.msg"
to get the lat 100 messages regarding "hp" from /var/log/messages
and then attach /tmp/hp.msg as MIME typle "text/plain" to your new bug.
Do not send us a whole /var/log/messages file - only an excerpt
what is of interest regarding HPLIP.
Furthermore we need the output of "hp-check -t -r " (run it as root).
The output appears as file hp-check.log in the current working directory.
Attach your hp-check.log file as MIME typle "text/plain" to your new bug.
FYI:
Usually we cannot fix issues in the actual scanner driver
because we do not have the particular scanner device.
Therefore it is perhaps best when you contact directly HPLIP upstream via
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/support.html
so that there is a direct communication between you and the upstream authors.
If you contact directly HPLIP upstream please post an URL here as reference.
