In that case, check who resets the volume to zero. You did already update
pulseaudio to 3.0, right?
Try like the following:
- Edit /etc/pulse/client.conf to change to autospawn = no.
- Kill pulseaudio once (either "pulseaudio -k" or "killall pulseaudio"); make
sure that no PA process is running
- Run "alsamixer -c0" and adjust the mixer again to the right state
- Start pulseaudio manually in foreground via "pulseaudio -vv". See whether
the mixer status is changed (e.g. check "alsamixer -c0")
If PA changes actually the speaker to zero, try to kill pulseaudio again, and
remove ~/.pulse* files / directory, and retest, just to be sure.
