I just tested with current Factory. Booting with sysvinit drops me to text mode
(no plymouth splash), and mounting the crypto partition works. Looks like this
bug was accidently ;-) fixed.
Probably unrelated:
Booting was then hanging(?) with "Removing old kernel packages" (from
purge-kernels) as last message and the harddisk permanently active. I decided
to reboot after a minute (with Ctrl-Alt-Del) (to systemd, which works), but it
seems the logs don't contain anything about the problem.
I'm not even sure if purge-kernels caused the issue or another initscript that
started in parallel. In other words: it's hard to report it as bug because I
don't know enough details.
If you think this is unrelated, feel free to close this bug as accidently ;-)
fixed.
