[Bug 769025] New: /etc/init.d/kbd broken in early boot phase - breaks boot.crypto
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=769025 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=769025#c0 Summary: /etc/init.d/kbd broken in early boot phase - breaks boot.crypto Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: sbrabec@suse.com ReportedBy: suse-beta@cboltz.de QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de CC: lnussel@suse.com Found By: Beta-Customer Blocker: --- Because of some issues with systemd (768953) I had to boot with sysvinit. While booting, I noticed lots of error messages from kbd. (sorry, I can't tell the exact messages, and it seems there's no log containing them :-( I'll take a photo at the next boot...) When I was asked to enter the passphrase for my encrypted /home, the keyboard responded in a strange way - nearly every letter seems to be interpreted as "return", which obviously means I was unable to enter the passphrase. Wild guess: could this be caused by the UsrMove, with a file from /usr/bin/ missing in the initrd? Workaround: After the system is fully booted, I'm able to login and run "/etc/init.d/boot.crypto restart" manually. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It looks very strange. ASCII subset of the keymap should work even without kbd, just the layout would be English.
Ludwig, do you think, that adding "Required-Start: kbd" (or at least Should-Start) to boot.crypto is the correct solution.
No. boot.crypto takes care to start kbd itself if needed. I'll have to investigate -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
