what do you mean? the usbkey has the format that the iso file gives.
the susestudioimagewriter writes the .iso file block after block raw to the
usbkey/usbstick. thats how I understand it.
instead of wirting the binary bits/bytes/blocks of an iso file onto a dvd/cd
media, the susestudioimagewriter tool writes it to the usbkey. thats all.
the key gets booted via bios/post same way as a dvd/cd rom drive with its
media. I installed 12.2/rc1/x86 this way via the usbkey with the iso written
onto it.
I dont just copy the .iso image onto a usbkey/usbstick with a pre-existing
filesystem on the usbkey itself.
its the
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SUSE_Studio_ImageWriter
which is creating the blocks on the stick. the stick doesnt show a valid
filesystem after it has been (over)written by the suse studio imagewriter,
thats how I remember it. I actually dont know if it was different in previous
versions of opensuse and the .iso files from back then. All I know is that some
knowledgebase article said instead of burning cd/dvd media with the .iso
images, we should write it directly to the usbkey instead via that suse studio
imagewriter tool.
