--- Comment #104 from Johannes Meixner 2012-05-11 07:29:27 UTC ---
I don't want to have it in the CUPS package.
Still the same reasons as I wrote in my various comments above plus:
I do want to have generic hardware enablement separated from
a particular user of the generic hardware (here enablement of
parallel ports separated from CUPS) so that it is possible
to use the parallel port even without CUPS. On any system
with a parallel port something like "echo Hello >/dev/lp0"
must work regardless if CUPS is installed or not.
A separated package which can be required or recommended
by any packages that need to access /dev/lp[0123]
is perfectly fine for me.
In particular cups would recommend this separated package.
There must not be a strict RPM requirement for it in cups
because cups can work without it.
Regarding comment #102 "You could populate that directory with
random device nodes and udev wouldn't complain":
Why are the traditional legacy device nodes not included e.g.
in the udev package or perhaps in aaa_base to provide support
for traditional legacy ports in any case out of the box?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
# for f in /lib/udev/devices/* ; do rpm -qf $f ; done | sort -u
aaa_base-11.4-54.68.1.x86_64
