--- Comment #6 from Craig Arno 2011-12-02 06:30:27 UTC ---
I installed the Realtek driver r8168 as described from the download driver
package link above. The driver again only works with Static settings. DHCP
doesn't work. DHCP requests are getting out, OpenSUSE 12.1 (pluto) is not
responding correctly. Here is what I see repeated every second in the OpenSUSE
10.3 server (gerty) /var/log/messages:
..
Dec 1 20:25:17 gerty dhcpd: DHCPREQUEST for 192.168.90.224 (192.168.90.2) from

Other devices are working with the 10.3 DHCP server, so the problem is on the
12.1 end.
On the 12.1 console a "/etc/init.d/network restart" produces standard looking
messages except it waits and backgrounds. Then after what may be a timeout,
the adapter gives itself a 192.168.186.170 IP. This is verified if I try to
ping this IP... it pings. Here are the corresponding entries from the 10.3
server log:
Dec 1 19:59:51 gerty dhcpd: DHCPREQUEST for 192.168.90.224 (192.168.90.2) from

I cannot dissuade OpenSUSE 12.1 from assigning the motherboard ethernet IP
192.168.186.170, except by setting it to static settings.
I'm now back to where this issue started after exhausting several more possible
solutions.
