Johannes, i surely feel your pain.
However, this is not going to get us anywhere.
You know the saying about "do not argue with idiots"?
Just put "grep -q parport /proc/modules && modprobe lp" into the cups init
script and into the yast2 printer module.
It won't hurt anyone (those who really care about the 17kB of RAM it uses can
blacklist it) and parallel printers will simply work.
Arguing with kernel hackers on this issue is just causing you a gastric ulcer
and will not help anyone.
If the above solution is not doable, I'm willing to create and maintain a
package called "fix-parallel-printer-because-kernelhackers-broke-it.rpm" which
will load the module (but cups would need to recommend that package).
