https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=663295 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=663295#c0 Summary: openSUSE:Factory:Contrib/python-distribute: should not obsolete python-setuptools Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: 3rd party software AssignedTo: jfunk@funktronics.ca ReportedBy: andreas.hanke@gmx-topmail.de QAContact: opensuse-communityscreening@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- The fix of bug 632805 is wrong IMHO. Now, if the Contrib repository is added, smart and yum (and maybe other package managers - did not test zypp) will immediately replace python-setuptools with python-distribute because the semantics of "B obsoletes A" is "B is an upgrade to A". That's far more intrusive than the previous situation with the "Conflicts" tag. In general, it does not make any sense to ever have "B obsoletes A" in a distribution (i.e as long as A is not dropped from the distribution) because then A cannot be used without blacklisting B in the package manager. Since dropping python-setuptools is obviously not possible, please look for another solution, such as: - dropping python-distribute (which package needs it to build, can it be patched to not require python-distribute) - maḱing python-distribute parallel installable with python-setuptools (possibly via update-alternatives) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
