Distribute is a fork of setuptools that is intended to completely replace it. It has more active contributers and fixes a series of bugs the original setuptools maintainer wouldn't fix. - Zypper certainly does not exhibit the behavior you are describing. - Most of the other distributions have completely switched to distribute and dropped setuptools entirely, but many of them kept the old package name. I would suspect that openSUSE will go the same way, but I am not aware of any plans, and the current setup appears to be working ok. I am assigning NEEDINFO to Jan Matejek, the bugowner of devel:languages:python. Should we do something about this?
