Ok. Closing as WONTFIX. One option would be to report that issue upstream, but
I'm afraid Intel no longer cares about i830M support. :-( It has been the first
laptop GPU from Intel (how many years ago was this?) and AFAIK at that time it
was used only in a fery few Laptop models. Most likely the Intel driver
developers even don't have any hardware for debugging that issue.
In case you're still interested in reporting that upstream.

I'm afraid such driver issues need to be addressed by Intel's Linux
driver development team. Thus I would like to ask you to report this
issue upstream on bugs.freedesktop.org according to
http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html
and add the following Bugzilla accounts to Cc:
eich@pdx.freedesktop.org
kent.liu@intel.com
mhopf@suse.de
quanxian.wang@intel.com
sndirsch@suse.de
You'll need to register for an account on bugs.freedesktop.org
first, in case you don't have one yet. Thanks.
