Obviously i830M support in intel driver is broken. :-( Workaround would be to use fbdev or vesa driver. sax2 -r -m 0=fbdev sax2 -r -m 0=vesa I don't know the native resolution of your internal display. Closing as WONTFIX. One option would be to report that issue upstream, but I'm afraid Intel no longer cares about i830M support. :-( It has been the first laptop GPU from Intel (how many years ago was this?) and AFAIK at that time it was used only in a fery few Laptop models. Most likely the Intel driver developers even don't have any hardware for debugging that issue. In case you're still interested in reporting that upstream. --- I'm afraid such driver issues need to be addressed by Intel's Linux driver development team.
