--- Comment #1 from Marcus Schaefer
Hi,
a customer reported an appliance problem with a Compaq/hp dl 380 machine. The storage devices on this machine appears as follows:
/dev/cciss/c0d0p1 /dev/cciss/c0d0p2 ...
so the disk name was identified as c0d0 and the partitions are labeled p1, p2, etc.. My question is if it is possible to map these names into a schema which is the same as for "standard" disks like /dev/sdx1, /dev/sdx2. So that I can rely on the partition to be a single number (easier for calculations and such)
No, you can't. This is the standard Linux partition numbering scheme: If the last character of the device is a letter, attach the partition number. If the last character is a number, attach a 'p' and then the partition number. You're welcome to discuss this on LKML, but don't expect to get any favourable response ... And this is _certainly_ not something which we can change on our own.
