[Bug 529580] New: kiwi: cciss partition names not numbers
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=529580 Summary: kiwi: cciss partition names not numbers Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: ASSIGNED Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: System Imaging AssignedTo: ms@novell.com ReportedBy: ms@novell.com QAContact: adrian@novell.com CC: peter.danner@hhsc.state.tx.us Found By: --- I know that Compaq/hp dl 380 and dl 580 label partitions p1 p2 etc... Under Search and copy all mbrid files, I changed the for id in 1 2 do; to for id in p1 p2 do;. this got me a little farther. It then complained about not being able to detect the filesystem type. I found that in linuxrc section 9 get filesystem type and boot id that I needed to change the export imageBootID=1 to imageBootID=p1. I then searched for and changed all 1 2 4 to p1 p2 p4 where ever I found a bootid or bootdevice string, in /init /linuxrc /include /preinit /repart /dump . With those changes I am now stuck with it not copying something over to /dev/cciss/c0d0p2? Is there no way for me to change it wanting to use the p1 instead of just 1? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hi,
a customer reported an appliance problem with a Compaq/hp dl 380 machine. The storage devices on this machine appears as follows:
/dev/cciss/c0d0p1 /dev/cciss/c0d0p2 ...
so the disk name was identified as c0d0 and the partitions are labeled p1, p2, etc.. My question is if it is possible to map these names into a schema which is the same as for "standard" disks like /dev/sdx1, /dev/sdx2. So that I can rely on the partition to be a single number (easier for calculations and such)
No, you can't. This is the standard Linux partition numbering scheme: If the last character of the device is a letter, attach the partition number. If the last character is a number, attach a 'p' and then the partition number. You're welcome to discuss this on LKML, but don't expect to get any favourable response ... And this is _certainly_ not something which we can change on our own. Cheers, -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
