I am not aware of any TSC stability issues on single-core AMD Athlons.
I suspect the TSC calibration during boot may have been the problem with 11.0.
An easy to see symptom of a bad calibration is a mis-reported frequency of the
processor, randomly changing with every reboot (the "Detected xxxx.xx MHz
processor." line). You can easily check whether this is the problem by booting
from the install 11.0 CD-ROM a few times and checking whether the detected
frequency differs significantly between boots. Is this the case?
In 11.1, the calibration has been made more robust with respect to disturbances
caused by SMI or other problems with the timers used to calibrate against (git
commit fbb16e24).
But I don't think it is worth spending too much time hunting this down for 11.0
if it works already in 11.1 and an easy workaround (clocksource=acpi_pm)
exists.
If you don't feel like wasting the time, we can simply close this bug.
