Seems the TSC issue was resolved in the 11.1 kernel, ntp on three servers via
DSL connection reports jitter in the single-digit millisecond range (that's as
good as it can get).
For providing the information you asked in comment #13: does it help to just
boot from the DVD from the openSUSE 11.0 box or should I rather install the
latest 11.0 kernel from the latest 11.0 update RPM?
I'm asking because I lost my 11.0 installation in a HDD crash and am running
11.1; but I think it should be feasible to boot the 11.0 kernel with a bit of
GRUB hacking and mkinitrd.
For the nonce, this is from 11.1:
