from the user's point of view, compiz is a natural part of gnome. "turning on
the effects" is an option that is completely unrelated to keyboard shortcuts
from the user's point of view, WM probably stands for Washing Machine :P
it's one thing to expect that the user understand that "KDE" and "GNOME" are
two different "Desktops", and another is to explain that "when you turn on the
desktop effects, your keyboard shortcuts are gone! why? oh, well, cyberorg said
it and so it's that way"
therefore, this is a major usability bug (but strictly speaking it's a bug of
GNOME desktop, not compiz)
acceptable solution would be if the capplet changed configuration in both gconf
and compiz flatfile backend simultaneously.
btw this also applies to "window behavior" settings (focus-follows-mouse and
friends). i filed a bug for this some time ago, but it was INVALIDated...
Brandon, thanks for being more persistent than i was :e)
