Christian Morales Vega was really clear with his explaination. You can manually
jump to another vendor and then you will get updates from that vendor in the
future without any problem. So Again, jumo vendor manually, then you get
updates automatically.
Allowing random vendor jumps ends in also feature jumps (MPlayer from SUSE has
different features with the one of packman, and the release number of the one
from packman does not have any relation at all with the one from SUSE) so
updates across vendors is making the solver compare apple and oranges. You CANT
compare versions across vendors (at least when the versions are the same
comparing the releases is nonsense)
If you still want to take the risk, you can use the equivalent vendors feature
to do such risky behavior. I ask myself, what else does anyone need about this
topic?
But I can imagine bug reports if cross vendor jumps are implicit, am pretty
sure Alpar will start reporting bugs that on some weeks he has mp3 support and
on some he does not.
