--- Comment #108 from Stefan Dirsch
OK, how about letting Compiz's RPM flip TexturedVideo off if there's an intel driver section in xorg.conf (and back on as part of its RPM removal)? That'd be one way. I think it'd still be the wrong way to go, but at least it'd be better than the current situation.
This won't work due to 1) compiz installed before xorg.conf is written 2) installed compiz doesn't mean at all that it will be used
But I think we're making this too complicated here. Let's examine the choice set once again resulting from the default settings....
Case 1 (current situation): Compiz works, video playback completely broken (in xine-based players, for example). I think most end users (including me) would find this grossly unacceptable. Their computers cannot do what a simple television can in this state.
I could not reproduce this issue at all with my 965GM (same chip as yours), so please don't conclude that most end users are affected by this.
Case 2 (proposed): Compiz works but slower (and it's an optional feature anyway, both for installation and then for activation, and doesn't work on all hardware anyway), and video playback works. Maybe document this in the release notes, similar to what was done in OpenSUSE 10.3 with Intel ipw/iwl wireless.
Again, with XAA/TexturedVideo compiz does *not* work.
What you're suggesting is that the performance of an eye candy feature (but apparently not the function of it) takes precedence over the actual functioning of a very basic capability, playing back any motion video, right?
Apparently you're ignoring my comments. I don't want to discuss this any longer. Please use the workaround with the TexturedVideo option. At the moment I'm not aware of any person, who is affected by your issue. It doesn't make sense to change the default to a setting, of which we know it brakes compiz for a lot of users. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
