Dirk,
The new ~/.xsession-errors for the last KDE start attempt by user is:
23:23 nirvana~> cat .xsession-errors
/etc/X11/xim: Checking whether an input method should be started.
/etc/X11/xim: user environment variable LANG=en_US.UTF-8
sourcing /etc/sysconfig/language to get the value of INPUT_METHOD
INPUT_METHOD is not set or empty (no user selected input method).
Trying to start a default input method for the locale en_US.UTF-8 ...
There is no default input method for the current locale.
startkde: Starting up...
Let me know what else I can send. I would really like to help resolve this
before I must downgrade to 3.5.7-72.6. If you would like me to run additional
tests, just let me know what you want.
One additional thought. Is there any way that /etc/X11/qt_plugins_3.3rc
installed on 5/10 as part of the updates could be causing the problem?. I'm
just looking for files in X11, etc. modified on the date of the update that
broke KDE to try and see if something looks suspicious. Here, the
/etc/X11/qt_plugins_3.3rc appears to contain a number of library references in
both /opt and /usr that, if not right, look like they could cause things to go
haywire. A shot in the dark, but who knows.
Thanks for you time and attention. I have faith we will find the culprit.
