sda is detected fine but as sda and sdb share the same channel, kernel retrying
on sdb probably made yast timeout on sda detection. Did it really take 10
mins? There are only four timeouts, which should add up to somewhat over two
minutes.
Anyways, the problem is that your second harddrive is timing DMA commands.
After several timeouts, libata backs down to PIO4 and things start to work.
Strange. Could be a cabling problem. Can you please try to rewire the stuff?
You are using 80c cable, right? Ah.. before rewiring, please 1. run sav_y2logs
after kernel finished retrying and attach the result here and 2. try the
following kernel parameter after that and verify that it get things going.
libata.force=9:pio4
