I'm seeing something similar on a different HP-Compaq machine:
suse-test:~ # cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature
temperature: 255 C
but without the the machine shutting down. If I do /etc/init.d/acpid restart,
then the temperature corrects itself, but xorg processor usage rises to >98%.
Logging out to restart xorg fixes that.
This happened with 10.2 as well and caused it to shutdown, but I didn't have it
long on this machine before I started testing the 10.3 series. As far as I am
aware this behaviour was not found in versions of 10.3 prior to RC1 which has
been updated from factory.
