--- Comment #9 from Stefan Dirsch 2007-09-11 02:56:10 MST ---
I do not replace "i810" with "intel" during the update by intention, since I
saw a lot of regressions with the new driver. :-( Still it has some interesting
new features like RANDR 1.2 and native modesetting, which users expect to see
with openSUSE 10.3, so I decided to make it the default for new X11
configurations.
I agree that "i810 versus intel driver" would be a valid point in the release
notes. Most important informations for this are:
- intel driver is the default on openSUSE 10.3 due to the hight demand like
native mode setting (no longer VESA BIOS based) and RANDR 1.2 support
- i810 driver is not changed for an update to openSUSE 10.3; use "sax2 -r" to
switch to intel driver
- intel is still not as stable as i810; use "sax2 -r -m 0=i810" to switch back
to i810 if you see problems that didn't occur before with i810 driver (and
open a bugreport for intel driver)
