Another confusion due to lack of documentation :-). The repodata_search function actually _can_ retrieve an attribute of a resolvable. Searching only happens if you leave the solvable id or the attribute id to 0. The lookup functions are there mainly because it becames tedious to use a callback just to look for an attribute that should be there.
