I wonder was it coordinated with YaST? The first fallout is YaST Users and Security modules which now default to DES password encryption due to missing /etc/login.defs.
I am not even sure what the right semantic should be, given that users now can create multiple files each containing single parameter so anything done via YaST is not guaranteed to actually have any effect.
Hi Andrei, we are trying to adapt code as world changing. Of course knowing that change already happen always help us to react in time. For first our attempt to adapt to /usr/etc ( as it cannot be done automatic as there are differences between software how they handle it ) is describe at https://lizards.opensuse.org/2019/10/09/highlights-of-yast-development-sprin... section "Splitting Configuration Files between /etc and /usr/etc" If you are interested in code, I can paste here some pull requests that implements it.
