When you installed fglrx did you force it?

I have the same ATI card and SuSE configuration except with an Athlon x86_64 board and chip. I also have a problem with occasional frozen screens since I installed the fglrx-8.8.25 driver. Interestingly my mouse cursor will still move from side to side but nothing works and I end up resetting. I've been unable to find any specific cause except that it only occurs during periods of activity. If I find out anything else I'll let you know.

Hmmm. What did you see in the log that tipped you off? I'm not seeing anything obvious in my log. I'm using a NEC LCD that complains if I use anything except 1280 x 1024 so that's the setting I use. It worked fine when I ran 9.1 and the default SuSE driver. But I just had to have hardware acceleration so...

I would download the driver and compile against yor current kernel. That is what I do anyway. I am assuming you are using pristine kernel from kernel.org.
