The question is how can I disble the X-system (KDE) and boot in text mode?
Change init level at boot prompt to a level without X. As you are using SuSE 6.4 I don't know which level. Try e.g. to add "2" at the parameters of the selected boot option. After booting you may use YaST to change the default init level. Nevertheless you should be able to boot with X and switch from the black terminal 7 with the not working X11 to a virtual, text terminal with ALT-CTRL-1 to ALT-CTRL-6. If not, try the thing above. BTW: The SuSE manual explains the init levels. So you should first read this to decide, which level you want to use. -- Markus
