[a lot of trouble with my ATI Radeon 9600 Pro and 3D]
After 4 months of hassle with either corrupt 3D display or crashing 3D applications I found the reason and a solution. So I post this for the sake of completeness. The problem was that both graphics and main board support AGP v3.0 which they use automatically. But AGP v3.0 isn't supported by the 2.4.x kernel series. An update to kernel 2.6.1 (which supports v3.0) cured the problem so I can finally play all those shooter games on Linux! Unfortunately the driver for my onboard sound (C-Media 9739A) doesn't compile under 2.6.1 so I had to use the snd-intel8x0 module as a fallback. This works except mixer settings, i.e. changing the volume doesn't work. But I can still use the knob on my speakers... Thanks for your attention ;-) Ingo -- "What're quantum mechanics?"
