Does it make sense to enable any of the new extensions like XDamage or Composite? Does KDE make use of these already?
XDamage is enabled by default. Composite is still experimental. If you want to run into problems with the fglrx driver, please enable Composite. ;-) I'm not sure if KDE already makes use of these, but you can play around with xcompmgr and transset. xcompmgr should already be shipped with 9.2.
