I do not know/do not really care what was done before but I think it would be at least appropriate - on the German mailinglist were also questions why no button for/way of donating to the community exists. Maybe that indirect way to financially support a part of the openSUSE project should be presented a bit less 'subtly'? As any donation would need to go through Novell as revenue this currently not a solution. We're working on setting up a foundation. If we're successful with that there will be a donation button.
